Every man was created by a woman, 2024

Acrylic on Canvas

Every man was made by a woman (2024) is a self portrait in which I confront the traditional concept of a male God. The religious symbols in the piece challenge our patriarchal norms, reflecting on how creation, often credited to a male deity, is a process born from the female body.

This work also speaks to the cruelty of a world filled with dissatisfied & ungrateful men ~ men who fail to acknowledge the sacrifice and pain that women are born and forced to be with. By placing myself in the role of the Virgin Mary ~ a figure of both reverence and suffering ~ I attempt to reclaim the divine feminine and offer a critique of the structures that diminish it.

How can we worship creation yet disregard its true source?

This piece was created for the ‘Praise’ exhibition, hosted by Eye Fleur.
